ABOUT US

welcome to hard hat and heels

Hi, I’m Barbara Mantebea Owusu-Konadu — founder and editor of Hard Hat and Heels.

With over 12 years of experience working in the mining industry, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and triumphs that come with being a woman in engineering. I hold a degree in Mining Engineering and a master’s in Project Management, and I currently work with Ramjack Technology Solutions in a business development role. But beyond the job titles and fieldwork, what’s always also mattered to me is the power of stories.

I started Hard Hat and Heels because I wanted to create a space where women in engineering — especially those in male-dominated industries — could see their journeys reflected honestly. This blog is for women, written by women. It’s a platform to highlight our unique challenges, celebrate our wins, and amplify voices that are too often overlooked.

Whether it’s through fiction, real-life reflections, or bold opinion pieces, I want this to be a safe and empowering space — not just for readers, but also for women writers who want to tell the stories that matter.

Outside of work and writing, I love traveling and collecting perfumes. (There’s always a new scent I’m falling in love with!)

Thanks for stopping by Hard Hat and Heels. I hope you find pieces here that speak to you, move you, or remind you that you’re not alone.
